Storybook Wood People

Its August right now. For many school has already started, for others, it’s still summer vacation. Parents and teachers preparing for another school season. Here’s a great project to get the kids back into learning mode. Storybook Wood People.

Have the kids write a quick story inspired by their summer travels or favorite books. Then turn their characters into dolls and tell their story visually.

We created a fun story inspired by our trip to Universal Studios and Disney World. Meet Oliver the Wizard and Sammy the Fairy.

To make your own, just grab some Hygloss Craft Wood People, Acetate Sheet and Glitter. Add some paint, pend and a little imagination. Lets Scroll down to get started…..

Supplies

Step One

Paint a the faces of the wood people with flesh color paint, let dry. Then paint the wizard’s body blue, hair yellow and the fairies body aqua, hair pink.

Step Two

For the Wizard, cut a small circle shape from the acetate sheet. Then cut a small line into the circle shape and roll into the cut to form a cone hat.

For the Fairy, cut four long tear drop shapes from the acetate sheet. Glue pointy ends together to form fairy wings.

Step Three

Glue the hat and wings to your wood dolls, let dry. Add final details using glitter and gel pens. This makes creating the eyes and tiny details easier.

Once complete you could coat the painted wood people with a craft sealant, but that isn’t necessary.

Make a whole bunch of these dolls. Turn into ornaments with ribbon or use them to tell a story. We can’t wait to see what you create.
