Easy Halloween Craft Projects: Spooky Candles in Recycled Glass Jars

easy halloween craft projectsMy kids and I love to make Halloween decorations. I was about to recycle a bunch of glass jars the other day when it occurred to me that these would be perfect for making easy Halloween craft projects.

All we needed was some orange tissue paper and some black paper. Everyone in the family got a jar or two to decorate for this easy Halloween craft. We used watered-down glue (about 3 parts water to one part glue) to decoupage strips of orange tissue paper onto the jars until they were completely covered. Then we drew Halloween-themed pictures on the black paper, cut them out, and stuck them on. This is where we had the chance to get creative with our Halloween craft projects. Some of us made witches, some made ghosts, some made black cats some spelled out words like “BOO!” Of course, my little one needed some help but she was able to make Halloween decorations just by pasting paper squares onto her own little glass jars and they came out cute as well.

For some variety you can put googly eyes on your ghosts or tie a ribbon around the neck of the jar. When you’re done making this easy Halloween craft, simply put a tea light candle inside the jar, light it, and put it in your window or on your porch. The flame will light up the orange tissue paper and cast shadows of the black paper images on the wall.

No two of these Halloween craft projects are alike and kids (and adults) can really express themselves by making their own unique creations. Best of all, unlike traditional candles, these are reusable – when the tea light burns out, just put in a new one! Plus it gives us an opportunity to reuse all those jam jars and coffee canisters and make Halloween decorations that really stand out.
